ISO 20121 certification.
Have your sustainable event management system assessed against ISO 20121:2024 and obtain a conformity certificate following a favourable certification decision.
Certification of a sustainable event management system.
ISO 20121:2024 helps organisations structure and demonstrate responsible management of their event-related activities. EXPO’STAT independently assesses the management system against applicable requirements within a defined scope. A favourable decision allows EXPO’STAT to issue a certificate.
Certification covers the management system and its effective implementation. It does not guarantee environmental or social performance for every event.

What we assess.
From the audit to the certification decision.
Application and scope
Review of the application, definition of the certification scope, relevant activities and sites, and audit planning.
Initial audit and findings
Document review, interviews, and checks of practices and supporting evidence. Any nonconformities are recorded and addressed under the certification rules.
Decision and certificate
After review of findings and corrective action, a certification decision is made separately from the audit itself. If favourable, EXPO’STAT issues a certificate stating the certified scope.
Surveillance and renewal
Surveillance assessments check continued conformity. Renewal follows the arrangements and validity period defined by the applicable certification scheme.
A system applied to real operations.
The audit looks at how documented arrangements are implemented across the activities included in the certification scope.
What to know before you begin.
Which organisations can seek ISO 20121 certification?
Event organisers, venues, agencies, contractors and other organisations whose activities fall within the standard's scope, with an appropriately defined management system and certification scope.
Is this a certificate for one individual event?
No. Certification applies to an organisation's management system within a defined scope. That scope may cover activities or multiple events, but the certificate is not automatically a label for each individual event.
Is a certificate automatically issued after the initial audit?
No. The audit findings and satisfactory treatment of any nonconformities are reviewed under the scheme, followed by a favourable certification decision before a certificate is issued.
What happens after certification?
The certification scheme defines surveillance and renewal arrangements to verify continued conformity during the certificate's validity period.
Does certification guarantee a specified carbon or social performance level?
No. It attests conformity of the management system to the standard within the certified scope, rather than certifying every individual environmental or social outcome.
